I could change no other mechanics besides the speed and clock speed and 20% is not enough to bail out a player who isn't doing their research and paying attention. Believe me, this still isn't a "casual" game. A 20% speed increase is hardly as severe as, say, adding a sprint (apparently even Ice-Pick thought it was prudent to give the player some kind of improved movement capabilities in the sequel), but it makes things just a little more rapid.

Some would say it feeds into the game, but I felt it was a detriment that experiencing something interesting - and the game is full of interesting things - was interspersed with long periods of boredom marching from one place to the next. My personal reasoning is that whilst I admire the dedication of hardcore players to the ordinary speed of Pathologic, my friends and I along with a number of reviewers all seemed to agree this was the element that made the game hardest to enjoy.

The only thing that won't work properly is my updated weapon sounds as they were designed to work at higher speeds, but someone could always slow them down by 20% in audacity (which is two clicks) and they'd have my improved sounds at the normal speed. It's two lines in the ini file that starts up with the game that can be removed and the game will function as it used to. I understand the game speed change was likely to be the most controversial change I made, but it's also the easiest change to undo. Removing my loose files will make it default to the game archives.

If you disagree with this change, as with all changes I make here, it's as simple as deleting the extra files that come with the mod as the game data will look for loose files first and then stuff in the game archives. The OST had a few musical moments I could nab for reputation changes instead and it was less annoying to me to play. As for the weapon sound design, I do like meaty sounding guns in games, but that's not really gun fetishism either as I think it's a pretty common opinion.Īs for the musical cues - I just find the babies annoying, to be honest. I think adding extra details wasn't about feeding my own interest in guns but was more about rewarding Ice-Pick for their own brilliant research and peripheral knowledge. They're thematically and time-period specific, for sure, but that would've taken research of their own. The Berdan and Fosberry aren't exactly commonly-known and wouldn't have been when Pathologic came out. It took me and my friend a lot of research (although I think the info is just on the pathologic wiki so we probably should've just gone there!) to figure out the guns they were using in the game.

Just a note on "gun fetishism" - Ice-Pick had to have been relative gun nuts themselves to a certain extent as I hadn't even heard of the guns they put into the game.
